New exhibit takes visitors inside the pages of National Geographic

Visitors to the Manitoba Museum have the chance to experience some of the earths most thrilling places. On Saturday, the museum opens National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorers.

Starting this weekend, visitors to the Manitoba Museum canexperience some of the earth's most remote and thrillingplaces, in person and with their smart phones. On Saturday, the museum opens National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorers.The travelling exhibit features sixeco-zonesto explore and interact with as well as an "augmented reality" app for Android and iPhones to make the experience that much more immersive.

Installations will look like they'reripped from the pages of a National Geographic magazine, and includedeserts, oceans and caves, said the museum. Thehopeis theexhibit will "ignite a renewed sense of curiosity" in natural spaces, according to thenews release Thursday.

"Earth Explorers gives insight into what drives us to explore and why we are determined to learn more about the planet," Manitoba Museum Executive DirectorClaudette Leclerc said.

National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorersruns Oct. 3 until April 24, 2016 at the Manitoba Museum.Guests are asked to download the Earth Explorers app before arrivalto see different 3-D animations related to exhibits and earn "virtual trophies" on their tablets or smartphones.
