14-year-old charged with 2nd-degree murder after O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi shooting: Manitoba RCMP

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree murder after turning himself in to RCMP following a fatal shooting in western Manitoba.

A 35-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound at a home in O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation, also known as Crane River,around 1 a.m. on Monday, after RCMP were called with a report of a shooting.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP helped two residents providemedical treatment until paramedics arrived, but the victim died from his injuries at the scene, police said in a Tuesday news release.

A few hours after the shooting, a 14-year-old approached police on the scene and turned himself in.

He wascharged with second-degree murder and remains in custody, police said. TheRCMP's major crime services and forensic identification services continue to investigate.

Police did not name the victim, or indicate if there was any relationship between him and the teen.

O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation is about 230 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, on the western shore of Lake Manitoba.
