Man, 32, died after drowning on Pimicikamak Cree Nation Saturday

A 32-year-old man from Pimicikamak Cree Nation died Saturday after he drowned in a lake, RCMP say.

A 32-year-old man from Pimicikamak Cree Nation died Saturday after he drowned in a lake, RCMP say.

RCMP responded to a drowning near the boat launch on Cross Lake inPimicikamak, shortly after 7:30 a.m. Saturday, police said in a news release Monday.

A group of people were at the boat launch when they saw a man struggling in the water and calling for help about 200 metres away. Two people went into the water to try to rescue the man, but he went under and did not resurface.

Mounties, fire and rescue personnel and community members searched for the man in the water, RCMP say.

Around 7 p.m., police were told that searchers had found the body ofa 32-year-old man from Pimicikamak.

An autopsy will be done.
