Winnipeg police block Portage and Arlington area after death of 46-year-old man

The death of a 46-year-old man is being investigated as a homicide, Winnipeg police say.

The death of a 46-year-old man is being investigated as a homicide, Winnipeg police say.

Officers responded to Portage Avenue and Arlington Street at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday after getting a report about an injured man, police said in a Sunday news release.

Police say the man was found on the ground near the intersection, where he received emergency medical care.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead, the release said.

Stains of blood could be seen on a sidewalk along Portage on Sunday. Evidence markers were also placed in the area.

Police blocked off eastbound Portage near Arlington as well as southbound Arlington, just north of Portage, according to a social media post. They are asking drivers to avoid the area.

The man's family has yet to be notified.
