1 dead, 3 sent to hospital after crash on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg

One person is dead and three are in hospital two in unstable condition and one stable after a crash Friday morning that left a long path of damage and shut down a stretch ofPortage Avenue.

One person is dead and three are in hospital two in unstable condition and one stable after a crash Friday morning that left a long path of damage and shut down a stretch ofPortage Avenue.

A pickup truck hit a bus shelter and hydro pole near Portage and Bedson Street in west Winnipeg, before continuing acrossBedson and hitting a Canadian Tire gas bar just after 7:30a.m.

Police did not sayif the person who diedwasin the pickup or somewhere else in the area.

A seconddamaged vehicle, a smallerSUV, could also be seen on Bedson, surrounded by yellow police tape.

Both directions of Portage were still blocked between Cavalier Drive and David Street early Friday afternoon. Police said they expected itto remain that way atleast until the afternoon rush hour.
