What's open and closed on Remembrance Day weekend in Winnipeg

It's a mixed bag of closures and abbreviated hoursin Winnipeg this weekend.

Remembrance Day is Saturday but a day off is given by some places on Monday.

Civic facilities

All civic offices are closed as normal on Saturday andalso will be on Monday. However,some facilities and services will be open and operating.

Recycling andgarbagewill be collected as normally scheduled on Monday.

All public librarieswill be closed Saturday and Monday.

Arenas,indoor poolsand leisure centres will be closed Saturdaywith the exception of:

• Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Margaret Grant Pool,1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
• Pan Am Pool, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Animal Serviceswill be closed Saturday and open from noon to 5 p.m. on Monday.

CemeteriesatBrookside, Transcona, and St. Vital will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Winnipeg Transit will operate Saturday on a Sunday schedule.

Free transit service will be offered to armed forces veterans, current serving personnel, including cadets and reservists, and one companion on Remembrance Day.

Those who wish to take advantage are asked to weara military uniform, or presenta military identification or CF1 card at the time of boarding. When displaying one of the above, the individual should also identify their companion to the operator.

"Lest We Forget" will be displayed as a banner message on allbuses on Saturday, in rotation with regular route and destination messages.

Winnipeg Transit will also observe one minuteof silence at 11 a.m.Drivers will pull over and stop their buses at safe locations.

Shopping

Retailers are prohibited from opening between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Remembrance Day in Manitoba, with the exception of professional health services, goods or services relating to:

• Prepared meals or goods and services connected to living accommodations.
• Professional health services.
• Veterinary services.
• Drugs, medicines, surgical appliances, or infant formula
• Gasoline, motor oil, or related products
• Vehicle parts or services for emergency repairs only

St. Vital, Kildonan Place, Grant Park and Garden City shopping centres are open 1-6 p.m. on Saturday. PoloPark is open 1-7 p.m. and the Outlet Collection Winnipeg is open from 1-9 p.m.

All are on regular hours on Monday.

Museums and attractions

Manitoba Children's Museum is open 1-4:30p.m. on Saturday and regular hours Monday.

Manitoba Museum is open 1-4pm. on Saturday and regular hours Monday.

Assiniboine Park and Zoo is open 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and regular hours Monday.

The Leaf at Assiniboine Park is open1-9 p.m.on Saturday and regular hours Monday.

FortWhyte Alive is open1-5p.m.on Saturday and regular hours Monday.

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is open 1-5p.m.on Saturday and regular hours Monday.

Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuqis open1-5p.m.on Saturday and regular hours Monday.

Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open1-5p.m.on Saturday and regular hours Monday.

Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame is closed.

Manitoba Electrical Museum isopen1-4p.m.on Saturday and regular hours Monday.

Manitoba Liquor Marts

No Liquor Marts in the province will open before 1 p.m. on Saturday. Those inWinnipeg and Brandoncloseat either 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. and those in rural locations close anywhere between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
