Collector coins honour Canada's military, emergency personnel

A new collector coin series from the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg honours Canadas firefighters, paramedics, police and military personnel.

Each coin is 99.999 per cent pure silver and sells for $69.95

A new collector coin series from theRoyal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg honoursCanada's firefighters, paramedics, police andmilitary personnel.

The Winnipeg-based mint unveiled theseries of coloured coins on Tuesday. Each is99.999 per centpure silver andsells for $69.95.

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to thank our firefighters, paramedics, police and the military for their commitment to preserve and protect the lives of Canadians every single day," said federal FinanceMinister BillMorneau.

"The dedication and professionalism of these brave men and women, who ensure we continue to live in a safe society, are a true inspiration to all Canadians."

The mint also announced it is donating$10,000 to the Red Cross fundraising effortsforFort McMurray. It is also donating$5 from the sale of every firefighterscoin, which is the first coin in the series.

The three othercoins in the series will be available on the following dates:

  • Paramedics June 7.
  • Police Aug.7.
  • Military Sept.6.
