Man, 30, dead after shooting in Sandy Bay First Nation

A 30-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation, and police are now investigating his death as a homicide.

Manitoba First Nation Police Service officers found the 30-year-old after responding to reports of shots being fired at a home in the First Nation, on the shores of Lake Manitoba, at 11:25 p.m. Friday, Manitoba RCMP said in a release Saturday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not release his identity.

The First Nations Police Service and the RCMP's major crimes and forensic investigation services are investigating the death.

Sandy Bay is located about 130 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
