Screen Manitoba's best short films for free

A showcase of the best Manitoba-made short films including comedy, animation, sci-fi and human drama in Short Shots 4.

Drawing inspiration from his fellow filmmaker brother, and robots, two of Marlon Wiebe's films are part of Short Shots 4.Theshowcase of the best Manitoba-made short films was put together by CBC Manitoba.

Wiebe first got into filmmaking about 10 years ago when the Winnipeg Film Group held a 48-hour film festival. Entrants had 48 hours to shoot, edit and finish a film. When Wiebe and his brother, Curtis, submitted their entry, they took second place.

"We've been addicted to filming since then," Wiebe said. "The limitless potential for how you can tell a story and convey emotion and ideas and build worlds through film and video is incredible. I think that's what keeps me coming back to it."

Curtis L. Wiebe, Filmmakerwasinspired by Marlon'sbrother Curtis, whoWiebe said has always inspired him. "I've always admired the way my brother can take an idea and follow it through from start to finish, something I've needed help with in the past," he said.



"I've always wanted to make a mini-doc and to see if I could do anything different with it and my brother seemed like the perfect opportunity since I could weave in the fantastical elements he always incorporates into the visuals."


His second filmis Robot Adventures in Outer Space,which isbased on some of the characters the Wiebe brothers came up with for theirband,the Secondhandpants.

"[It's] kind of a mash up of all our favourite things, the
Muppets, sci-fi B-movies, Carl Sagan, ukulelesand our zany sense of humour," Wiebe said.
