It's going to be a difficult spring in Winnipeg for those living with asthma or allergies.

That's because snow mould the fungus left beneath the ground after the snow melts is back. And there is plenty of it out there.

"This is the time of year for people to stay indoors as much as possible, especially during the morning hours when the mould tends to really get released," saidDr. Allan Becker,an expert in allergies at the University of Manitoba andconsultant at the Childrens Hospital inWinnipeg.

He saidasthma cases tend to peak at this time of year butthere are things people can do to ease their symptoms.

"If you are allergic, ifyou're sensitized to these moulds, which are the most common allergen in the prairies, you really shouldn't be out there cleaning up your lawn, unless you'vegot really good protective gear."

Becker also recommends allergysufferers keep car windows rolled up when driving aroundand try to stay indoors as much as possible.
