Teen driver dies in rollover near Steinbach, Man.

A 16-year-old boy from the rural municipality of Ste. Anne has died after the car he was driving rolled into a ditch south of Steinbach, Man., over the weekend, while another teen who was a passenger in the vehicle remains in hospital.

A 16-year-old boy from the rural municipality of Ste. Anne has died after the car he was driving rolled into a ditch south of Steinbach, Man., on the weekend.

The driver and a passenger were in a car heading west on Hanover Road W., about one kilometre south of Steinbach, on Saturday afternoon when it veered off the road and rolled into the south ditch, colliding with some trees, RCMP said.

Both teens were taken to a Winnipeg hospital in critical condition. RCMP announced Wednesday that the driver has since died. The passenger, a 16-year-old boyfromSteinbach, is in stable condition.

The rollover is under investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, and both teens were wearing seatbelts at the time, police said.
