Vote to name Winnipeg's red panda cub

The Assiniboine Park Zoo wants help in naming its new red panda cub.

The zoo is home to three red pandas:Rufus, Rouge and the female cubborn on June 30.

The potential names are:

• Zhin, meaning treasure
• Kiah, meaning from the beautiful place
• Anika, meaning graceful or beautiful
• Mya,meaning emerald

There are two ways to cast a vote. "Like" theAssiniboine Park & Zoo page on Facebookand then vote for your favourite name.

Visit Toucan Ridge inside thezoo between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sept. 15International Red Panda Day and enter your vote.

The Facebook poll will stay open until 9 p.m. Sept. 17, following which the new names will be announced to the public.

In recognition of International Red Panda Day, the zoo will also be offering a variety of free, family-friendly activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Toucan Ridge to help raise awareness about the species.

There will be several activity stations that kids can complete in order to become certified as a Red Panda Ranger.

isitors will also have the opportunity to meet an Assiniboine Park Zoo keeper and learn about how the red pandas are cared for at the zoo.
