Police are investigating the disappearance of two plaques that had been mounted to the front of a historic building in Winnipeg's Exchange District.

Police said sometime before last Friday the sign for "The Brokerage Bannatyne East" building and a "Historic Winnipeg" plaque were taken down and stolen.

The signs describe the history of the Donald H. Bain building, which dates back to 1899.

Theplaques are part of a number that dot downtown historic buildings that were put up in the 1980's by Heritage Winnipeg and the city.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 204-986-6668 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
