Elgin man, 60, killed in single-vehicle crash in southwestern Manitoba

A 60-year-old Elgin man is dead after his vehicle hit a ditch at high speed androlled over in southwestern Manitoba on Thursday afternoon, RCMP say.

A 60-year-old Elgin man is dead after his vehicle hit a ditch at high speed androlled over in southwestern Manitoba on Thursday afternoon, RCMP say.

Killarney RCMPgot areportabout the crash just after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, police said in a Friday news release.

Officers who responded found an SUVin aditch.Emergency medical services and the DunreaFire Department were already at the scene, but the 60-year-old man waspronounced dead shortly after RCMP arrived.

They say their investigation has determined the SUVwas travelling westbound on Highway 23, aboutfive kilometres from Ninette, when it entered theditch at highspeed, and thenhit an approach before rolling several times.

The driver, who was the only person inthe vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt when the SUV crashed, according to RCMP.

Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
