4th person charged in connection with killing in Winnipeg's North End

A teenager is the fourth person charged with second-degree murder in connection with the February killing of Canon Franklin Beardy in Winnipeg.

Police issued an arrestwarrant for the 17-year-old boy earlier this week and requested public assistance to locate him, after obtaining a court order allowing them to publish his identity and photograph.

On Saturday, police said the teenager, who now cannot be named because of his age, had been found and charged.

"Without the media's assistance and without us putting this out I don't think we would have been able to effect this arrest," said Winnipeg policeConst.Rob Carver.

"It was all very helpful to us because we now have this male in custody."

Two other teens, aged 16 and 14, and 20-year-old Joshua Leclerc had already been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the case.

Beardy, 28, was found on Feb. 6 suffering from multipleinjuriesinside a duplex onMagnusAvenue, between Powers and Andrews streets,in the city's North End.

He was rushed to hospital anddied a short time later.
