Nearly two dozen people have been forced from their homes as a result of a fire at a Manitoba Housing complex in The Pas, Man.

Randy Manych, the town's chief fire prevention officer, said firefighters were called to a Manitoba Housing six-plex in the town at about 7:20 a.m. Saturday.

"The building was fully involved in one suite, which then spread through the attic to a number of other suites," Manych said. "Mostly all of the other damage was water damage."

Manych said four suites in total were damaged by either the fire or water from fighting it. He said crews had the fire under control by 10:30 a.m.

The Red Cross tweeted it was supporting 19 people from five families that were displaced by the fire with meals, lodging and other aid.

Manychsaid the Office of the Fire Commissioner is investigating.

"I spent most of the evening with the Office of the Fire Commissioner last night and I think we have it pretty much pinned down," he said. "Unless video proves otherwise, it's not really considered suspicious."

Manych said no one was injured in the fire.

The Pas is located about 520 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
