Thompson woman charged after baby repeatedly dropped on the floor, Manitoba RCMP say

A baby has been placed in the care of another relative after the five-month-old was allegedly dropped on the floor multiple times and then placed in anentertainment unit, Thompson RCMP say.

Mounties went to a home in the northern Manitoba city around 3:45 a.m. on Nov. 2 after receiving a request for assistance, RCMP said in a news release Friday.

When they arrived, officers could hear a loud disturbance inside and went into the home, where they found two women arguing.

Police were told the younger woman, 26, had dropped a five-month-old baby on the floor "multiple times," which led to the argument with the 41-year-old, the news release said.

The three are relatives, RCMPsaid in an email to CBC. Police declined to provide more information in order to protect the identity of the baby.

Officers found the baby inside an entertainment unit and called emergency medical services. The child was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The baby has since been released from hospital and is in the care of a relative, RCMPsaid.

The 26-year-old, who isfrom Thompson, was charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

She was released from custody with a promise to appear in court in Thompson on Jan. 28.
