Thousands brave the rain for Manitoba officers' memorial march

Thousandsbraved the rain to march in support of the Provincial Police and Peace Officers Memorial Service Sunday.

The special date was established in 1998 when the federalgovernment proclaimed the last Sunday in September every year as the day for Canadians to express their appreciation for the dedication, service and sacrifices of police and peace officersandthose who havelost their lives while in the line of duty.

Sundays celebration started at 10 a.m. the Fort Garry Hotel on Broadway. Officers marched from the hotel to the Manitoba Legislature.

The event was hosted by the Manitoba Association of Chiefs of Police and held inconjunction with the International Association of Women Police Parade of Nations March. There were close to 600 female officers from around the world taking part in the event in Winnipeg.
