United Way Winnipeg revamps annual campaign, sets 3-year goal

For the first time in United Way Winnipeg's history, the agency is overhauling itsannual campaignto make it athree-year plan that focuses on more than just fundraising.

"This evolution is a direct response to conversations with nearly 2,000Winnipeggersduring United Way's 50th anniversarylastyear," a news release from the agency stated.

Three Years for a Better Winnipeg is the new campaign, whichhas four goals:

• Providing more young people with mentors.
• Giving 4,000more kids access to mental health supports.
• Connecting more people with job skills and money management training.
• Helping 2,700more families find support close to home.

The announcement was made during a community breakfast Thursday morning atHugh John Macdonald School in the West Alexander neighbourhood.

The food was served up by community leaders, including Mayor Brian Bowman, Premier Brian Pallisterandmembers of the police service.
