Wheat board job cuts continue in Winnipeg

The Canadian Wheat Board says 330 jobs in its Winnipeg office will be gone by the end of the year.

The Canadian Wheat Board says 330 jobs in its Winnipeg office will be gone by the end of the year.

At the beginning of 2011, it had 430 employees in the office. At the end of this month, the number will be down to 287.

Continuous cuts each month will bring the CWBto just 100 employees by early 2013.

The board says the end of its monopoly means it has lower volumes of grain to market which means fewer employees are needed.

In December, a federal law was passed to scrap the wheat board's marketing monopoly, endingits reign as the country'ssole marketer of Western Canadian wheat and barley.
