Winnipeg crews help 6 people escape overnight house fire in Spence neighbourhood

Fire crews helped six people escape a house in Winnipeg's Spence neighbourhood after a fire early Saturday, the City of Winnipeg says.

First responders went to a two-storey home in the 600 block ofFurby Street, between Cumberland and Sargentavenues, around 3:30 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a fire, the city said in a news release.

Smoke and fire were coming from the house when they arrived. Firefighters fought the fire from inside the home and it was declared under control shortly before 4 a.m.

Firefighters helped six people get out of the house. Allwere assessed by paramedics, butnone needed to be taken to hospital, the city said. No other injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not yet available.
