Police arrest suspect after fires set in St. James seniors complex

Winnipeg police have a suspect in custody after fires were lit in a seniors complex under construction in St. James Sunday afternoon.

Winnipeg police have asuspect in custody after fires were lit in a seniorscomplex underconstruction in St. James Sunday afternoon.

Police saidtwo fires lit in the building on Sinawik Bay around 5 p.m.weresnuffed out early on and didn't cause much damage.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the firesand remains in custody, police said.

The arson unit is investigating the fires. No damage estimate has been released and no one was injured, police said.

Wolseley fires

Police saidit is too early to know whether the fires are connected to a string of blazes inWolseleythat happened over the weekend.

A condo under construction at the corner of Westminster Avenue and Maryland Streetwas reduced to rubble and ash after a massive fire ripped through the multi-storeycomplex early Saturday morning. Two neighbouring homes were also seriously burned in the fire and six people two residents and four firefighterswere sent to hospital with burn wounds.

A garage nearby on Chestnut Street was also destroyedby a fire police have connected to arson.
