Tactical officers arrest man after section of Exchange District shut down in gun-related investigation

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service are investigating a scene around King Street and McDermot Avenue in the city's Exchange District.

Atactical support team helped in the arrest ofa man in what Winnipeg police described as a "firearms-related investigation" in the city's Exchange District during rush hour on Wednesday.

Officers from the Winnipeg Police Service had shut down the area around King Street and McDermot Avenue early Wednesday evening. About a dozen officers could be seen guarding the area including some from the tactical team.

Police asked people to avoid the area while investigators and emergency crews were on scene.

The man was taken into custody from a business in the 200 block of McDermot Avenue. Several tactical officers could be seen leaving Mariaggi's Hotel around 6:45 p.m.

Anews release issued by police shortly before 7 p.m. said no injuries had been reported.

Officers have left the area and roads have reopened, police said.

The release says more information about the arrest will be available on Thursday.
