Couple visiting Happyland ParkFriday may have useful information about girl in distress: police

Investigators from the Winnipeg Police Service's child abuse unit are hoping to speak to a couple who was at Happyland Park on Friday around the time a teenage girl went into distress near a riverbank.

The incident happened between 6:30 and 7 p.m. on Friday at the city park on 425 Marion St., according to a Tuesday news release.

Police said they received multiple reports of a teenage girl who was in distress near a riverbank at the park. Officers located the girl and transported her to the hospital for assessment, police said.

Winnipeg police have spoken to several people, but they are hoping to also talk to a man and woman who were at the park with a child and two dogs at around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Police believe the couple may have "useful information" to provide investigators about this incident, the release said.

Anyone who was at Happyland Park when the incident happened, including the couple, is asked to contact investigators in the child abuse unit at 204-986-3296 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS.
