City says seasonal shift in water complaints repeating this year

As expected, the City of Winnipeg is getting fewer complaints about discoloured water, now that temperatures have cooled down.

The number of calls were receiving, say last week, compared to the peak in August, are down by 90 per cent, said Diane Sacher, the director of the citys water and waste department.

The number of calls typically spikes every summer and wanes in the fall. This summer was particularly bad at the city, with thousands of complaintscoming from a range of neighbourhoods.

The city hired an external consultant last year to try and determine why discoloured water was coming from the taps, but so far, the city has no explanation.

The consultants report is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
