Winnipeg's frozen pipes crisis cost the city $8M

The coldest winter in over a centurycost Winnipeg more than $8 million in overtime, materials, equipment and tellinghomeowners to keep their taps running to prevent the pipes from freezingup.

Last winter, the frost penetrated the ground as much asthree metres, shutting off water supply to thousands of Winnipeggers.

The city has applied to the province for disaster financial assistance and could get up to half of that money back.
