10th person pleads guilty in gas price fixing scandal

A tenth person has pleaded guilty to criminal charges for conspiring to fix the price of gasoline in Sherbrooke, Que., the federal Competition Bureau said Monday.

A tenth person has pleaded guilty to conspiring to fix the price of gasoline in Sherbrooke, Que., the federal Competition Bureau said Monday.

Michel Dubreuil, the former owner of two Esso service stations was sentenced to six months, to be served in the community.

Dubreuil was also ordered to make a $25,000 charitable donation.

Thirteen people and 11 companies were charged with illegally fixing gas prices in the Quebec communities of Victoriaville, Thetford Mines, Sherbrooke and Magog in June 2008.

So far, 10 individuals and six companies have pleaded guilty.

Six individuals have been sentenced to a total of 54 months imprisonment, the Competition Bureau said.

Investigations continue into potential price-fixing on the retail gasoline market in other areas of the country, the bureau said.
