Two people in their 20s and a 70-year-old have died after a crash in Quebec's Eastern Townships.

First responders were called late Saturday to the site of a collision near Bury, Que., about 160 kilometres east of Montreal.

"For an unknown reason, a vehicle with two people aboard travelling eastbound veered into the oncoming lane, causing a head-on collision," said Nicolas Scholtus, a spokesperson for the Sret du Qubec (SQ).

A 23-year-old female driver, her 24-year-old passenger and the 70-year-old driver of the second vehicle were all taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The SQ is conducting an investigation in collaboration with the Quebec coroner's office. An investigator and police officers from the SQ were on the scene to shed light on the circumstances of the event.

Traffic was interrupted on a portion of Route 108 until 5 a.m. Sunday morning.
