Accused ex-judge stays behind bars

A retired Quebec Court of Appeal justice charged with murder will remain in custody this week until his next court appearance.

A retired Quebec Court of Appeal justice charged with murderwill remain in custody this week until his next court appearance.

Jacques Delisle, 75,has been accused of first-degree murder and possession of an illegal firearm in connection with the shooting death of hissick wife in November 2009.

Delisle appeared briefly in court in Quebec City on Monday, where his bail proceeding wasdelayed until next week.

A full publication ban is in effect on Delisle's court proceedings.

The retired judge is the first member of the Canadian judiciary to becharged with murder. Quebec's Crown office has been forced to resort to exceptional measures to deal withhis case.

Before Delisle was arrested, the Crown presented evidencein an in-camera hearing known as a pre-inquiry. The technique issometimes used in cases where evidence is extremely technical.
