COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know on Monday

The latest:

• Quebec has51,354confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 4,661people have died, an increase of 295cases and 20deaths from Sunday.

As more businesses reopened and activities resumed Monday, the provincesaw its lowest rise in confirmed COVID-19 cases since March 25, with only 295 cases reported in the most recent 24-hour period.

Quebec Premier Franois Legault provided an update on the spread of the virus in the province from Montreal, alongside Health Minister Danielle McCann and Culture Minister Nathalie Roy.

Montreal still has the most cases of any Canadian city, with25,545 confirmed cases and2,927 deaths recorded so far.

Movie and TV production to resume June 8

Audiovisual production in Quebec will be allowed to resume on June 8, Roy announced Monday.

Productions will have to respect the two-metre rule and other guidelines provided by Quebec's workplace health and safety board.

"We also hope performances with a limited number of spectators will resume before St-Jean-Baptiste," Roy said.

The province also announced it will invest an additional $250 million for the cultural sector, to help artists recover after the COVID-19 crisis essentially halted their creative output.

Dentists, daycares reopen

Several activities and businesses are opening today, including daycaresin the Greater Montreal area and dentist offices across the province.

But as daycares reopen for the first time in months this morning, some Montreal educators are concerned children will have difficultyadapting to their new surroundings.

Outside Montreal, daycares will be able to return to full capacity June 22. They will be able to do so starting July 13 inthe Montreal and Joliette regions.

Kahnawake, Kanesatake reopen businesses

Businesses in Kahnawake and Kanesatake will be allowed to reopen today, with special regulations in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The Kanesatake Emergency Response Unit also announced some of the checkpoints the community had set up in and around Kanesatake and Oka will be coming down today.

The checkpoints had been put in placein an effort to keep non-locals out of the community, amid concern that visitors could spark a second wave of COVID-19 infections.

In Kahnawake, businesses have also been given the green light to reopen today, with the exception of restaurants, bars, gyms, beauty salons and massage parlours which will remain closed until further notice.
