COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know on Friday

Health Minister Christian Dub implored Quebecers to focus on preventing the spread of COVID-19 during the long weekend, and so far there haven't been outbreaks in schools. Here's what you need to know today.

  • Quebec reported 184new cases of COVID-19 and one moredeathFriday. Another death was removed from the total because it was deemed not attributable to COVID-19.Since the start of the pandemic, there have been63,117confirmedcases and5,767people have died.

Quebec Health Minister Christian Dub implored Quebecers to focus on preventing the spread of COVID-19 during the Labour Day long weekend.

Dub said a new system of classifications will be introduced next week, which will allow the government to impose restrictions in more targeted areas ofthe province. He warned the measures would be appliedif case numbers continue to climb.

Quebec reported184 new cases on Friday, and 187 new cases on Thursday, some of the highest totals since early summer.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

  • Fever.
  • New or worsening cough.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wear a mask or face coveringwhen physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
  • Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
  • Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
