A Montreal performance by a controversial Polish blackmetal bandwas cancelled after a protest led to security concerns.

Several dozen people gathered in front of Beaubien Metro Saturday afternoon to rally against the band Graveland, set to perform at the nearby Thtre Plaza.

Protesters, many of whom were dressed in black, spoke out against what they say is racism among the group's members. The demonstration attracted a heavy police presence.

Gravelandwas booked at the venue as part of the annual Messe des Morts festival.

The organizers said in a statement that it was forced to cancel the show for "security reasons."

Alexandre Boulerice, New Democratic Party MP for RosemontLaPetite-Patrie,was among those at the protest.

Boulerice said he was "concerned" that groups with fascist leaningsand whose members made remarks resembling "white supremacists" were in his riding.
