Jacques Parizeau state funeral to be held in Montreal next week

The state funeral for former Quebec premier Jacques Parizeau will take place on Tuesday June 9 at 2 p.m. at Saint-Germain-D'Outremont church in Montreal.

Parizeau died on Monday, June 1 at the age of 84.

Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard issued a statement late Wednesday night with the details.

Public visitations will take place this weekend.

In Montreal, people can pay their respects on Saturday June 6, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Caisse de dpt et placement du Qubec, which is located at1000Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle in Old Montreal.

On Sunday, Parizeau's body will lie in state inQuebec City. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the council chamber of the National Assembly.

There isalso an online book of condolences that people can sign.

Couillard said the Quebec flag will fly half-mast on the central tower of the Htel du Parlement, on all provincial and municipal public buildings, as well as on Quebec office buildings across Canada until the day of Parizeau's funeral.
