Lawyer Mlanie Joly confirmed that she will run for mayor of Montreal in the city's November elections.

Lawyer Mlanie Joly confirmed that she will run for mayor of Montreal in the city's November elections.

On the day Montreal mayor Michael Applebaum was arrested, lawyer Mlanie Joly confirmed that she will run forcity hall'stop position in the November elections.

"I cannot accept seeing the city that I love dragged into contempt, stagnation and corruption. I think Montrealers no longer recognize their city and its administration. I think Montrealers are stronger than partisan politics," said Joly.

The 34-year-old Joly resigned fromthe public relations firm Cohn & Wolfe few weeks ago to begin her mayoral campaign.

Joly says she believes Applebaum should resign as mayor.
