Residents of Montreal North have chosen Christine Black, a member of Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre's party, as their new borough mayor in a byelection.

Christine Black, a member of Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre's party, was elected mayor of Montreal North on Sunday.

Black, a member of Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre's party, wonwith 69 per cent of the votes, netting three times as many votes asrunner-up Kerlande Mibel of Projet Montral.

Only 20 per cent of residents eligible to vote exercised their right, according to Montreal's elections bureau.

Four candidates were in the running to become the next mayor of the borough.
