Hydro-Qubec sends 200 workers to help during U.S. storm

Hydro-Qubechas been called to help local authorities in theUnited States this weekend as awinter storm wallops the East Coast.

The company has sent more than 200 workers to Long Island, N.Y.

Marc-Antoine Pouliot, the spokesman for Hydro-Qubec, said the organization is able tolend a hand because Quebec will be spared from the storm.

He also said Quebec workers could stay longer than scheduled if American authorities still need their help.

The blizzard is set to blanket some regions in as much as75centimetres of snow.

Flights cancelled across Canada

Over 50 flights have been postponed or cancelled atMontreal-Pierre ElliottTrudeauAirportfor the weekend and even into Monday.

The snowstorm also forced thousands of flight cancellationsacross the rest of Canada and in the U.S.

Travellers heading to or departing from Boston, Philadelphia andNew York Cityshould expect delays or cancellations.

Cities across the northeastern U.S. are under blizzard watches and Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina have declared states of emergency.
