Montreal goes green for St. Patrick's Day

Half a million people are estimated to have attended last year's St. Patrick's parade in Montreal, the longest-running St. Patrick's Day parade in North America.

Annual parade will begin on Sunday at Ste-Catherine St. and Fort St. downtown

Montreal is going all in celebrating St. Patrick's Day, with City Hall lighting up ingreen in honour of the Irish holiday.

Sunday's parade marks the 194th edition of the event, where tens of thousands of people will gather to watch the procession at noon as it kicks off at the corner of Ste-Catherine and Fort streets.

Organized by the United Irish Societies of Montreal, this year's parade features more than 20 floats and several marching bands.

Once again, Mayor Denis Coderre will be theparade's Grand Marshal, with him showing off his Irish heritage in style. Coderre has Irish roots stemming from his maternal grandmother's side.

The CBC crew will be marching in the parade again this year, greeting people and handing out sweets.
