1 person dead after apartment fire near Montreal's Olympic Stadium

The fire began shortly before 11 a.m., in a building on Aird Avenue in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood.

There was a fire alarm in the apartment, but it was not working

An apartment fire in a building near the Olympic Stadiumkilled one person on Friday morning.

The fire began shortly before 11 a.m., in a building on Aird Avenue in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood.

First responders found an approximately 70-year-old woman in cardiac arrest inside an apartment.

She was transported to hospital in critical condition, but was later declared dead.

One other resident is receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

The fire department says there was a fire alarm in the apartmentbut it wasn't working.

Montreal police are investigating.
