A Quebec judge has rejected a restraining order request against a Montreal blogger who reports on Outremont's Hasidic community.

Outremont resident Pierre Lacerte has run his controversial blog for the last six years, detailing what he considers bylaw violations committed by his ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighbours.

Michael Rosenberg an influential businessman in the Outremont Hasidic community sought a restraining order against Lacerte, claiming he is harasssing Rosenberg and his family.

Lacerte's blog includes dozens of photos taken around an unmarked Hutchison Street synagogue founded by Rosenberg's family.

Rosenberg and his son feature prominently in many of the blog photos.

Lacerte has long contended the synagogue which is housed in an apartment building violates municipal rules and is the cause of parking problems.

His critics accuse him of anti-Semitism and racism for his blog musings.

Quebec judge Manon Ouimet turned down Rosenberg's request.

In her ruling, issued Monday, she saidwhile Lacerte is "excessive, meticulous, passionate and difficult," there is no evidence "he's a violent person."

Rosenberg maintains a restraining order is required to ensure his family's safety in the neighbourhood.

Lacerte already faces a $375,000 defamation lawsuit filed by Rosenberg.

Rosenberg is president of the Rosdev real estate company.
