Search called off for man missing in Lac Saint-Louis

The search for 40-year-old Pierre Lajeunesse, missing in the waters of Lac Saint-Louis since Tuesday night, has been called off.

The search for 40-year-old PierreLajeunesse,missing in the waters ofLac Saint-Louis since Tuesday night,has been called off.

Rescuers including the Montreal firefighters, a Sret du Qubec helicopter and the Canadian Coast Guard launched an initial search that lasted until 2 a.m. Wednesday.

The search was resumed at dawn, before finallyending around 3 p.m.

No body was found, Montreal police said.

The identity of the missing boater was confirmed by his sister, who has been at the BeaconsfieldYacht Club, near where he is believed to have fallen in, for most of the day.

Lajeunesse's Facebook page is littered with photos of him on sailboats, out on the water.

In one post, he invites interested parties to contact him about organizing group sailing lessons.

"It would be my pleasure to share my passion for sailing with you," he wrote.

An unfortunate accident

Fire department spokesman BrunoRuscio said Lajeunesse fell in whilereaching for his bandana that had fallenin the water.

"It was an accident ... He wasn't wearing a lifejacket," Ruscio said.

Lajeunessewas accompanied by a 43-year-old friend with no experience steeringthe vessel.Policesaid the pair had been drinking.

The other man on the boat contacted first responders while on the boat, which he didn't know how to steer. (Radio-Canada)

Police say the friend called 911 from the boat before it drifted to shore.

Authorities were searching from Pointe-Claire to Baie-D'Urf for Lajeunesse.

Rusciosaid it's unclear whythey were out on the water at night.

"It's late for that kind of boat to be out," he said.
