Second victim means more charges for 2 retirement home workers

A second resident of a St-Lambert retirement home has come forward alleging he was abused by two ex-employees.

The two former employees, Immacula Eugne and Marie-Margaret Ptim, faced new charges at the Longueuil courthouse today in connection with the mistreatment of CHSLD St-Lambert-sur-le-Golf resident Jean-Paul Gagnon.

CHSLDs are government-run long-term care facilities.

The women are now facing charges of theft in addition to the charges that were laid earlier this week against them.

Eugne, 51, is now alsofacing a charge of uttering threats.

The two women were arrested Monday for their alleged involvement inthe mistreatment of Denise Beaulieu, an 87-year-old resident of the CHSLD St-Lambert who died in July.

Both women were charged this week with counts of administering a noxious substance, drug trafficking and conspiracy. Eugne also faces a charge of armed assault. Today it came to light that the weapon in the latter charge was a pillow.

Ptim, 46, was released on bail Thursday.

Multiple complaints have been lodged against the CHSLD St-Lambert since it opened in 2011.

On Wednesday, Quebec's health minister announced he was launching an investigation into the elderly woman's death and into the quality of care providedat the CHSLD in question.
