Concert supply may outstrip demand: tour bus operator

The owner of a bus company that takes people to concert venues in the Maritimes says he's feelingthe effectsof lower than expected ticket sales for this weekend's Bruce Springsteen concert in Moncton .

Tom McGinn, owner of Tom McGinn Tours says he's cancelled busses he intended to use to takepeople to Monctondue to the lack of bookings.

"My worry is that if the showing is so poor it may put a black mark on Moncton as a place to host concerts and it may hurt future concerts down the road," he said.

"Hopefully there's a last minute pick up and sales are good enough that the promoter is going to make a little bit of money at it and keep them making concerts in the future."

He says one reasonfor slow sales may bethe number of concerts in the Maritimes and northeastern U.S. is higher than it used to be.

"In the Maritimes there's a lot of concerts to pick from. You've got the concerts in P.E.I., Moncton's had a couple, you've got Bangor now are getting into it with their concerts there," says McGinn.

"I think the supply of concerts in our area might be outstripping the demand."

He says tickets for another tour his company is taking to the Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw concert on Rhode Island are also down from previous years.

'The Boss' is playing Magnetic Hill Sunday along with Tom Cochrane, Red Rider and The Trews.

Springsteen is on his worldwide Wrecking Ball Tour selling out in some locations.

Organizers expect between 25,000 and 30,000 people from across Atlantic Canada at Magnetic Hill. That's a big drop from the 50,000 to 70,000 Moncton city manager Jacques Dube predicted in April.
