RCMPare warning the public about a telephone scam after receiving morethan 20 complaints from all over the province since Tuesday.

The caller claims to be from the Canada Revenue Agency and demands money by claiming the person calls owes the government overdue taxes.

"The callers are aggressive and often claim they will come to the victims' house and arrest them if the money is not paid," states an RCMP warning about the scam.

"The callers speak with a foreign accent and insist the money be paid immediately either by credit card or via Western Union."

Const. JullieRogers-Marsh said some of the callers use a program to display the revenue agency's telephone number on the intended victim's caller ID display.

"We want people to know that this is a telephone scam and the callers aren't really with CRA," said Rogers-Marsh.

Anyone who receives such a call is asked to report it to their local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
