Don Comeau's basement is a child's dream.

The Quispamsis man's basement is stacked with rows of unopenedboxes of toy carsfrom the floor to the ceiling. All ofthe cars are in perfect condition.

"When I was a kid I remember going through the Christmas catalogue, Sears, and I wanted everything," said Don Comeau.

"All the cars and the toys and the little stations. I remember that like yesterday."

The exact size of the collection is a bit of a mystery. He said there are roughly 6,000 or 7,000 toy cars in his basement.

Comeaufinds new carswherever he can. He finds them inyard sales as well as toy stores. If he likes the car, he buys it and adds it to the collection.

He knows what some are worth individually and all together, Comeau said the collection is worth thousands of dollars.

And all of the boxes areunopened.

"I wouldn't open one if I had 10 of the same ones. I wouldn't open them," said Don Comeau.

It's no surprise Comeau's two youngestgrandchildren, Jack and Tyler, visit him a lot. They have their favourites, but they also know the rules. They don't open them.

Comeau has actually had nightmares about it.

"I've dreamt about kids coming in and stealing them more times than enough," said Comeau.

Comeau has other types of toy cars, but mostly it's Hot Wheels.

The car that started it all was bought more than 40 years ago. Comeau said he doesn't remember which it was, but the collection hasn't stopped growing since.

"I just got one the other day," said Comeau.
