Donald Savoie awarded $100K for 'exceptional career achievements'

University of Moncton academic Donald Savoiehas beenawarded $100,000 in recognition for his career in writing on public policy and public administration.

The Canada Council for the Arts announced the recipients for the 2015 Killam Program on Tuesday.

Savoie was one of five Canadian researchers who received $100,000.

The awards were given "in recognition of their exceptional career achievements."

Simon Brault, the director and chief executive officer of the Canada Council for the Arts, said Canadian researchers are constantly applying their creativity to major issues.

"Through the Killam Program, we are proud to recognize and support the women and men whose ground-breaking research is expanding our knowledge and opening paths to new innovations," he said in a statement.

Savoie,the Canada research chair in public administration and governance, is "a leading Canadian expert on public policy, public administration and federalism," the statement said.

The other recipients include:

  • David Bentley, Western University, Humanities.
  • Vijay K. Bhargava, University of British Columbia, Engeineering.
  • Victoria Kaspi, McGill University, Natural Sciences.
  • Lorne Tyrrell, University of Alberta, Health Sciences.

The Killamprizepresentation ceremony will be held in Ottawa at Rideau Hall on May 12.
