Bail hearing delayed for Fredericton man on drunk driving charges

A Fredericton man facing six charges related to an alleged impaired driving accident that seriously injured two people on a motorcycle had his bail hearing adjourned until June 28.

The adjournment wasordered to give Robert Shannon, 40,time to consult with a lawyer. He remains in custody until then.

Shannonis charged with two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, once count of breach of an undertaking and one count of driving while suspending.

The charges were laid after a motor vehicle collision on June 19 between an SUV and a motorcycle. The collision occurred about 6:30 p.m. in a traffic circle at the intersection ofCliffeStreet and Two Nations Crossing and resulted in the streets being closed for 4.5 hours while police investigated.

Shannon was charged with impaired driving and driving with a suspended licence on April 25. He is scheduled to appear in court on those charges in November.

Michael Burden had one of his legs amputated Wednesday as a result of the accident. His wife, Kendra Burden, also remains in hospital.
