Ice-sculpting workshop carves out a hit for FROSTival

Close to a dozen chefsand aspiring artists got a lesson Sunday in the fine art of shaping and sculpting ice.

The ice workshop waspart of the FROSTival winter festival taking place in the city and it drew hundreds of onlookers to Officer's Square.

Rick McCaskill was among those who tried out their sculpting skillsand tried not to make a mistake with the chisel.

"Well maybe it would go viral, if I make a bad mistake especially," he said.

"I guess we've only got one or two extra blocks of ice. Se we get one mulligan, that's about it here."

The City of Fredericton put on the weekend festival and organizer Mary-Ellen Hudson couldn't believe how popular the ice-sculpting workshop turned out to be.

"I am amazed," she said. "This is incredible to have this many people come and watch and with the skating it's such a festive atmosphere today. I love it."

The ice sculptures will remain on display in Officer's Squarefor as long as temperatures stay below zero.
