The bridge, which crosses the Jemseg River, was closed on Friday.

It's unclear when the inspection was conducted.

In December 2013, Auditor General Kim MacPherson said293 of the 2,608 bridge structures across the province about 11 per cent needed "significant" work.

The bridges in question all received a "poor" rating on the Bridge Condition Index, MacPherson had said.

TheJemsegBridge was not listed as one of them.

MacPhersonhad warned that if the government didn't start setting more money aside for maintenance, the bridges wouldnot be able to support the weight and volume of traffic.
