Wholesome Farms' Strawberry Sundae Cups recalled over possible Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is asking the public to avoid consuming Strawberry Sundae Cups from Wholesome Farms because of possible Listeria contamination.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public to avoid consuming Strawberry Sundae Cups from Wholesome Farms because of possible Listeria contamination.

Central Smith Creamery is recalling the dessert that has been sold in 115-mLcups and distributed to New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba,Alberta and possibly nationwide

The inspection agency saidrecalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

The agency also advised food services such ashospitals and nursing homes to stop serving the dessert, as pregnant women, seniorsand people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

"Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth," the agency said on its website.

No illnesses associated with the consumption of this product have been reported.

Symptomscan include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. In severe cases, people can die from the illness, the agency said.
