David McTimoney is stepping down as superintendent of Anglophone School District West to become the acting principal of Summerhill Street Elementary School in Oromocto.

The public letter released by the district doesn't specify when he will step down, but lists his new job as principal as starting on Aug. 28.

It is unclear if the move is permanent however as McTimoney only wrote that he is taking a leave of absence, not resigning.

In the letter McTimoney said his new job will give him a different perspective.

"Accepting an acting principal role will now give me a chance to experience first-hand the impact of how we have shaped [the district] since its inception five years ago," said McTimoney.

McTimoney has been superintendent for seven years.
